If you’ve been on Pinterest for longer than an hour, you’ve probably seen this picture. It’s incredibly popular and frequently gets repinned by eager parents desperate for summer crafts with which to entice their kids away from the television. Unfortunately, the picture is 100% Photoshop and bears no resemblance at all to the instructions.
Right off the bat, there’s no lid on the jar in the photo. It’s pretty hard to get glitter to float around in the center of a jar that has no top on it. Then, all those pretty little sparkles that look like an X are all the exact same color and size – that’s a dead giveaway for computer-added elements. Have you ever tried to photograph glitter? You need, like, 16 different light sources, and no two sparkles ever look alike.
